Geastrum fornicatum
Ground mushroom; less than 5cm long; rudimentary stem with a terminal globose "ball-shaped" spore sac; gray, light brown to dark brown colored; appearing scattered or forming large groups.
Found these close to a Schinus molle tree (15 - 40cm away) in the middle of the dry season.
I saw this fungus in quite large groups, always in the same spot (see habitat) sometimes in pairs, but mostly individually.

Thanks a lot, i'll be uploading more fungi pics soon.
Very interesting!
Excellent!
What a great looking earth star! I have always wanted to find one. I had to look up the meaning of its species name: fornicatum refers to the arched shape of its "leaves".
