Virginia Opossum

Didelphis virginiana

Notes:

This little guy was a late season baby, we had a severe ice storm not long after this photo was taken and I ended up (with a rehabber's supervision) caring for him after he suffered severe frostbite and a few other issues. He was released much healthier and stronger a little while later. I called him Trotsky :)

Thanks all. A lot of folks have told me they think possums are ugly, but I don't think so. I have been lucky enough to have rescued 3 in the last couple of years, all youngsters born at the end of the season and not able to handle the severity of winter. All 3 made it and were released in the spring :)

He did go into the playing dead pose :) This little guy was a late season baby, we had a severe ice storm not long after this photo was taken and I ended up (with a rehabber's supervision) caring for him after he suffered severe frostbite and a few other issues. He was released much healthier and stronger a little while later.
