Hyles gallii
A black caterpillar with red head and tail and yellow spots along its sides. I never saw one like this in person. If my ID is correct, it grows into a Bedstraw hawkmoth.
It was crawling across a walking path where I work. The area is open fields with ponds.
I found one too. ID is correct! Aren't they crazy looking. Good spotting.
here is a great referece guide for moths and butterflys of N America. http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/speci... onced identified you can edit the spotting and put the name/scientific name/reference
Good Luck!
