This butterfly is found in south Asia. It is uniform purplish brown or dark blue above with darker narrow black bands which runs on the outer margins of both wings. The ground colour of the underside is a light brown or brownish greyand quite variable. There are numerous small black markings on both wings; the ones on the forewings are always larger and often a darker shade. The upper side is brown, with a more or less distinct suffusion of violet-blue at the bases of the wings, on the hind wing continued obscurely along the dorsum; both forewings and hind wings with slender anticiliary lines, darker than the ground-colour.The bases of the wings are blue and are surrounded by a large black border on the front and outer margins. The underside is slightly darker than in the male, markings precisely similar. It is buff, with a series of prominent spots at the post discal area of the forewing. A widely distributed common butterfly found year round to at least up to 5000 feet but very rarely in the high country being more common than the Dark Grass Blue. Its habitat is short grass with small Leguminous and Acathaceous plants.
