Carolina praying mantis

Stagmomantis carolina

Description:

Carolina mantis is one if the most common in North America. The come in a variety of colors, from all green to mix of brown. They are a gardener's best friend, consuming a huge amount of pests. So much so that mantis eggs can be purchased online so that gardeners can hatch them and create a population. This is also necessary because they are known to engage in cannibalism.

This one is a male! Most of the egg cases sold online are non-native species like the Chinese Mantis (Tenodera sinensis). The Carolina Mantis is native to North America. Please consider adding this to the Marvelous Mantids of the World mission (if you wish, I know you already have this assigned to five missions): http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/1573...
