Maniola jurtina
Male. A very common medium size butterfly. The male has quite a dull brown wing upperside with a single ocellus. The female has a strong orange band at the upperside of the front and greater contrast on the uderside of the hindwing. Similar species are the gatekeeper (which prefers to rest with its wings open) and the small heath (which is smaller).
