Cercotrichas paena
Mixed Bushwillow woodlands
Habitat type is taken from the Kruger Park Guide for the location where the photograph was taken, which is an approximation in many cases.
Kalahari was not in the range in my old book but I see it has recently been reported there several times so it is possible. I have changed the headings to include the names. Thanks for the help.
True, the range does not fit, and it's only vagrant down south - then the Kalahari scrub-robin is the only other option, I think... hope this helps; https://www.africanbirdclub.org/afbid/se...
Cercotrichas galactotes is highly unlikely in Kruger Park as it is a long way from its southern limit. Only one South African record exists, Cape Town in 2016. This bird appears to have a rufous back and grey cap so could be one of other family members which are found in the park. Pity I did not get a good focus on it.
Judging by the shape in general; colors of the back against colors of underneath; then colors and the length of the tail; and what we can see from the face (wide cream stripe above the eye), my bet goes to Rufous-tailed scrub robin... Against the leaf, size should be OK...
Still no idea what this bird is, cannot find it in my only book, a small pocket book, and unfortunately, no idea of the size.
