Asiatic dayflower

Description:

Asiatic Dayflower Also called mouse flower because of the round ear-like upper petals. This plant was introduced from Asia and the flowers open for only one day. A creeper plant growing across the ground like a vine. Can also be erect. A single flower is produced on a stalk. Primarily bees pollinate the flowers. The foliage is eaten by the Six-Spotted Beetle. Occasionally, the seeds are eaten by upland gamebirds and songbirds, including the Mourning Dove, Bobwhite, and Redwing Blackbird. The foliage of Dayflowers is a preferred food source of the White-Tailed Deer.

Habitat:

These asiatic dayflowers are growing wild along the edge of the wood pile in the backyard.
