Sciurus carolinensis
spotted under dead loquatin front yard
I was in my yard watching the bees on the sunflowers when I heard the tell-tale sound of a squirrel gnawing a hickory nut. I turned to see this fellow busy with this large, old beef bone.

they chew on bones to get the calcium, and they need to chew to keep their teeth worn down
I hope he was getting something worthwhile. I think it would be hard work!
