Alice, I hope you see this and smile :) I tried getting the correct angle this time. :) chasing these hoopoes made me exhausted and i felt like a stalker, lol
@ darwin26, thanks for the compliments. what do you include in the bird feed for hoopoe ? I have seen them foraging among grasses, but never know what is it that its eating. ;)
yes malcolm u are right... i just have to be at the right spot at the right time. ;) I will try for that. Ashish i was ajmer for 4 years, didnt see much of them over there, but lots of peafowls. Thanks alice, these pics were possible because of ur comments on my last hoopoe spotting. :)
@ MatthewKritzer, trust me the bird looks awesome when its head feathers stands up. He looks like a Mohican. I tried best to get the head feathers in its straight mode but was only partially successful and result is the first pic. :)

i built my own bird feeder to keep the Hoopoe's out and its working so far... a bird this striking could cause cardiac arrest!
Great shots!
thanks for sharing,
Yes you are right but they seen in mostly in remote and less disturbed rural area.
ajmer isn't a desert area.. its is near to aravalli range near to Pushkar where there is a world famous animal fair once every year. ;)
In Rajasthan they find in thorny bushes, I not find them in desert areas.

Congratulations Ctsetan! Such good pictures. Sorry you exhausted yourself, but excellent work. An interesting back view also.:)
In Rajasthan they find everywhere...
Its so difficult to get them with the crest fully erect, they open it as they land then close it almost immediately!
