Coconut Palm

Cocos nucifera

Description:

Tall, thin-trunked palms with that distinctive burst of palm fronds at the end. They lined the rim of this little island and took over much of the small intererior.

Habitat:

Very small islands on the Panama coast of the Caribbean. Tropical. Very sandy soil.

Notes:

The locals are quite protective of their coconut palms as they have a few small huts on each island and family members rotate out from the bigger island/cities, to care for the trees and harvest the coconuts that they sell for $1 a piece.
