Dorstenia

Dorstenia

Description:

The smaller plant I found (first and second photo are from the same plant) is about eight inches around and four inches tall. A single flower(?) on the end of a stem is about six to eight inches tall. The second and third photos appear to be the same species but the plants were taller and wider by about four inches. The flower(?) almost looks like it has spores.

Habitat:

These plants were found in the jungles near the village of Yelapa, Mexico. They were found in different locations but around the same distance from the sea and same altitude. Shaded areas with a lot of moisture.

Notes:

Any help identifying this plant would be appreciated!

Looks interesting - would have been great to have shots of the rest of the plant.

I think these guys are going to be my new favorites to look for next time I'm in Yelapa!

Your welcome, glad I could help. I see you updated the name but don't forget about your description and notes. You are lucky to see this in the wild. In the green house at work some of these just sprout on the ground from the few we have, almost like weeds.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! You are definitely correct. The closest I could find was a Dorstenia Drakena. It was a fascinating plant!.

Found it! Not sure of the species but it's definitely a Dorstenia. Start your search there. Very cool to see them in the wild.

Very cool! I know this plant, I even have a species as a houseplant, but the genus is escaping me right now. I will get back to you.
