i couldn't really remember if they were on a plant. when i saw them they were on a small rock if i'm not mistaken.. one thing for sure though is that i found them on a rocky beach...
i took this picture last year. i was never really interested before on the details of my subjects until i got into Noah..... thats why i don't have any other information about these bugs. : )
hi! karenL....to be honest, i'm not yet sure if these really are red cotton bugs (nymph). but as i was searching i found these sites with pictures almost similar to my spotting http://jumbledmumblings.blogspot.com/200... http://addithebirde.blogspot.com/2010_06....... i am also confused here. : ) thank you by the way for helping me figuring this one out...
I don't think these are red cotton bugs as all the photos I could find of the nymphs of that species have yellow bars on the sides http://www.google.com/search?q=red+cotto...... I'm still thinking these maybe milkweed bugs.
These look a lot like large milkweed bug nymphs (Oncopeltus fasciatus) so I'm guessing they might be related. Here is a spotting I had of that species http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/726...

No problem! Do you know what plant they were on? That might help to identify the species.
