Luna Moth(s)

Actias luna

Description:

Two Luna Moths mating, although this male unfortunately didn't give the female enough time to develop so presumably no offspring will be produced.

Habitat:

Found on a tree during a hike through the Hidden Lake Trail at Enterprise Nature Park.

Notes:

These are the only Luna Moths I've found here in Eastern TN. It was thrilling to see such a rare event, but it was unfortunate that the female was underdeveloped. I doubt anything came of this mating session.

Nice find. I'd like to see these one day. Similar to Actias selene, the Indian moon moth.
