Sawblade Shrimp

Tozeuma lanceolatum

Description:

This carid shrimp is also known as Ocellated Tozeuma Shrimp, Broken-back Shrimp and Humpbacked Shrimp. They feed on parasites, algae and plankton, and grow to a length of about 5cm.

Habitat:

Found on rope sponges, algae and sometimes seagrass blades. Widespread across the Indo-Pacific region.

Notes:

When my dive buddy spotted this shrimp, we thought at first it was a type of pipefish. In fact, I believe it was mimicking a pipefish! It was only when I reviewed the photo on my computer that I realized it was a shrimp.
