Spotting

Description:

Smooth shell, with something smaller inside. Cracked it open and found a smaller seed/nut in there. The shell ended up being fairly thick, averaging around an 1/8".

Yeah it annoys me to see that since I am often surrounded by the real "sagu".

They do look very much like a Metroxylon sagu nut: http://palmweb.org/?q=cdm_dataportal/tax...

There seems to be a whole heap of confusing on the net about this Palm, with loads of pictures showing Cycads, especially the 'Sago Palm' Cycas revoluta but labelled with the name Metroxylon. I'd be surprised if it was a Cycad seed and not a Palm

I think it is some sort of cycad seed, I just don't know what.

Can't be, but looks somewhat like (the outside of) a sago (Metroxylon sagu) nut.

I would assume so but I'm not sure. My aunt was given them to try and identify and she's not sure where they came from.
