Eulampis holosericeus
The green-throated carib is a large hummingbird. Adult females have some feathers orange to light green below the peak, while adult males have light green in greater proportion. Also the tail in adult females is dark red-brown with tips ending in white, the tail of the male is dark blue. Both females and males have an intense blue band on the chest, belly of both are dark green-blue. The back of both is green with golden tones.
Our garden in Windwardside at the foot of the Volcano Mount Scenery, on the Island of Saba in the Caribbean Sea.
For years I have tried to attract some hummingbirds. Saba has only three kind. But as we are in the middle of the village I was not very succesful. I had some nice big glass feeders but to no avail. Until I bought some simple single feeders and had several on the avocado tree. Now everyday I have seen one little hummer in the garden! He goes from one feeder to the next, and even comes closer to the window of our cottage. I am SOOOOO excited! Unfortunately the background of our white cottage makes this a bit of a bland composition but I love the movement of the wings.
