Helix pomatia
In south-eastern Europe Helix pomatia lives in forests and open habitats, gardens, vineyards, especially along rivers, confined to calcareous substrate. In central Europe in open forests and shrubland on calcareous substrate. It prefers high humidity and lower temperatures, needs loose soil to burrow in order to hibernate and lay its eggs. It lives up to 2100 m in the Alps, usually below 2000m. In south England it is restricted to undisturbed grassy or bushy wastelands, usually not in gardens, with a low reproduction rate and low powers of dispersal.

I've moved this snail from the Arthropod category to the Other category for you. Snails and slugs are Mollusks. Arthropods have an exoskeleton and jointed limbs in at least one phase of their life. Think dragonfly, bee, crab, and ant.
A land snail is helix pomatia I don't think that the pattern makes a difference.
Ryan,we have a lot of limestone here. Many snails too.i have one spotting which was identified as Helix Pomatia. The shell has a different pattern though. That is what I find very confusing.
Thanks
Nice clear picture!
