Milbert's Tortoiseshell Butterfly

Aglais milberti

Description:

Family: Nymphalidae Genus: Aglais. Also called Fire-rim Tortoiseshell. Wingspan: 42-63 mm (almost 2.50 inches) Large example. Forewing tips are squared off. Upperside is black/brown with a wide submarginal orange band which turns into yellow. Hindwing border has blue spots. Adult food: thistles, asters, goldenrod and more. (A quick flier)

Habitat:

Meadow on property enjoying white aster flowers (Prefers wet areas)

Notes:

Range: All of Canada. Alaska (below tundra). All of western USA and most of Eastern USA. (One of the most gorgeous butterflies I have seen)
