Description:

Fat, yellow and dark striped abdomen, long spindly legs with yellow bands half way, approx 40-50mm, web ordered and with thick diagonal cross at centre.

Habitat:

Amongst green vegetation, spider sits at web centre with each of 2 pairs of legs matching the cross on the web.

Notes:

Total width of web approx 1 metre.

Agriopes are also called writing spiders because they spell the letter "X" on their web. The story of Charlotte's Web is modeled after this spider but Charlotte had a much greater vocabulary.
