Unknown Bolete

Family > Boletaceae

Description:

Beautiful light brown to gold-capped mushroom with striking blue to violet marbled bruising. Cap size is around 10cm in diameter. Pores are golden brown, and the tube layer is quite deep (almost 2 cm towards center). The pores themselves don’t seem to bruise to blue, but the flesh bruises quickly. The stipe is cream to white, slightly scaly and has a dark brown ring near top. A spore print was hard to acquire, but a dark ash brown smudge was present on the paper. This specimen has been sent off for DNA analysis, but my top guess at an ID right now is Leccinellum griseum. I'm crossing my fingers that my specimen was in good enough condition for a proper ID!

Habitat:

Top of forest ridge, growing in thick mulch/leaves. In a dense mixed hardwood forest in Northwest Georgia.

This is so stunning! Love the blue-green tie-dye cap.
