White Tip Reef Shark

Triaenodon obesus

Description:

Juvenile white tip, about four feet long.

Habitat:

Near shore tropical water; shallow reef area with ridges, draws, undercuts and caverns.

Notes:

Spotted hanging out in a cavern offshore of Makaha, in water about 30 feet deep. When I entered the cavern to get its picture, it left, then circled around, came back. I got my picture. Original medium 35mm Ektachrome slide taken with Nikonos V. Print made from slide. Print later scanned and image saved as digital file.

I did get a good shot. (If you keep trying, it's bound to happen every now and again.) Even though the shark was coming right toward me, I did not feel at all threatened. It broke off and swam away right after I operated the shutter.
