Red-Claw Cuapetes Shrimp

Cuapetes tenuipes

Description:

Also known as Thin-arm Shrimp, Long-arm Shrimp, Ghost Shrimp, Glass Shrimp, Transparent Commensal Shrimp, Invisible Shrimp and Red-scissor Commensal Shrimp. (Formerly - Periclimenes tenuipes) Almost completely transparent except for a few brown lines, with very long arms and red claws. They feed on parasites, algae and plankton.

Habitat:

Found on sand bottoms and down holes with Mantis Shrimp. Widespread in the Indo-Pacific region.

Notes:

I was trying to take a photo of a mantis shrimp, but I'd gotten too close, so it withdrew into its hidey hole. Suddenly, these nearly transparent cleaner shrimp with thin, long arms came out to play!
