Description:

Manta rays feeding on plankton, the latter attracted by underwater lights.

Habitat:

Near shore tropical waters, coral reef ecosystem.

Notes:

Spotted on night dive about 35 feet deep off of Keauhou. Original media Ektachrome slide film taken with Nikonos V using flash; film subsequently scanned and images saved as digital files.

Great photos. They are magnificent. I was lucky enough to swim with them on NIngaloo Reef WA Australia. They are so elegant yet they are so fast in the water it's hard to keep up with them.

Kevin and Sonya, I spotted this manta just offshore of the old Kona Surf Hotel on a night dive with old friends of mine who operated a diving charter business.
