Jews ear

Auricularia auricula-judae

Description:

Large fleshy looking fungi, growing on a decaying peice of wood. Regognised it straight away. Had never eaten it before either and now I am quite a fan.

Habitat:

Growing on a branch in wet or damp conditions in the Hutt valley. Seems to be quite a bit of it around. It is also edible.
