Red Maple

Acer rubrum

The red maple flowers and produces samaras before the tree leafs out. Seeds of Red Maple are called samaras. The seed is a schizocarp composed of two 1-seeded samaras. When the samaras separate from the branch, they spiral to the ground; they may be carried on the wind to disperse them.

Twenty foot tall tree growing in shade on shore of inlet to lake.
