Description:

Male Description Head, throat and upperparts bright, deep cobalt blue. Breast chestnut. Blue on belly and undertail coverts. Varying amounts of chestnut on back. Eyes dark. Legs dark. Female Description Duller and not extensively blue. Head and throat gray. Back gray-brown. Abdomen and undertail coverts grayish. Blue wings and tail. Chest duller chestnut.

Habitat:

Picnic area at trailhead located in ponderosa pine forrest at approx. 6500 ft. elevation.

Feeding in National Parks is against the law and enforced. However, these birds had gathered to forage on crumbs left behind.

I love these birds.
I hope people are not feeding birds. Birds body cannot process salt or get rid of the salt. It accumulates and-they fall sick.
