Large Red Damselfly; Caballito del Diablo Rojo

Pyrrhosoma nymphula

Description:

Small damselfly 33-38 mm with separated eyes. Males are redder than females and with yellow bands only in the final segments. Females occur in many colour forms, but all have yellow bands around the abdominal segments. They can easily be confused with small red damselflies, but the latter has orange legs, while the large red damselfly has black legs.

Habitat:

Banks of a river in the mountains. Parque Natural de Sierra de Gredos.
