Red-collared Lorikeet

Trichoglossus rubritorquis

Description:

Looks similar to the Rainbow Lorikeet. These beautiful birds are defined by the orange-red collar. They have a bright red/orange bill and chest. The face and down the back of the neck is bright blue and also on their lower breast/body area. The back is a beautiful green extending down over the wings and tail.

Habitat:

Hanging around in the coconut palms at Cable Beach.

Notes:

When I was a kid (in QLD) we had a tree called the "Parrot Tree" or otherwise known as the "Drunken Parrot Tree". When this tree flowers the blossoms are filled with nectar. There is so much that it ferments. When this happens, the parrots (incl. rainbow lorikeets) would have their fill then literally fall to the ground because they were drunk!!! Very funny :D

What a pretty bird! I've seen some animals before that I could have sworn were drunk, must be some similar plants here :)
