Mushroom Coral Ghost Shrimp

Cuapetes kororensis

Description:

Also known as Plate Coral Shrimp, Popcorn Anemone Shrimp, Crown Shrimp and Heliofungia Shrimp. Its body is transparent, red to black with a white spiny head (that looks like a dollop of cream, or a piece of popcorn). They feed on parasites, algae and plankton, and grow to a length of about 4cm.

Habitat:

Found on or close to mushroom coral (eg., Heliofungia actiniformis) and various anemones. Widespread in the Indo-Pacific region.
