Damselfish

Dascyllus albisella

Description:

Hawaiian damselfish ~ 4 inches long hovering near the shelter of a cauliflower coral head (Pocillopora eydouxi).

Habitat:

Near shore tropical waters; coral reef ecosystem.

Notes:

Spotted about 70 feet deep on the 01 level abaft the superstructure of the Mahi wreck off of Leeward Oahu. Date shown is notional, can only be honestly cited as 1991-1994. In the background of the image, hanging out on the coral head, is another species, an arc-eye hawkfish (Parachirrhites arcatus). Original medium 35mm slide taken with Nikonos V; film later scanned and image saved as digital file.

Thanks for the motivation Sargon. I should have gone with the obvious ID when I first posted this spotting.
