Thankyou so much for your lovely compliment, I'm glad you like the picture :) and thankyou also for your research. I actually had no idea there were so many different types of wasp!
Also read somewhere the yellow stripe that runs into the eye can also tell them apart, which in fantastic photos like yours is pretty easy to spot.
Location too in some cases is a teller (in south America germanica is the common one)
OK, have done lot's of searching and the article in the wikipedia seems OK.

they are told apart by the drawings on the forehead (which doesn't seem that consistent to me), but the spots on the abdomen tell the yellowjacket apart from the common wasp which has them fused to the lines.
Thankyou very much for your comment! I have done some research and I cannot find anything to identify it specifically but it could indeed be a yellowjacket. :)
