Octopus

Octopus cyanea

Description:

Octopus, 2 - 2½ feet long, looking a lot like a tent, watching me from atop a piece of coral rubble.

Habitat:

Near shore tropical waters; coral reef ecosystem.

Notes:

Spotted just east of the Pearl Harbor entrance channel; note sailor's hat in background. The hat it was recovered, and since it was marked with the sailor's name, it was returned to him; he was not amused. Original medium 35mm color slide taken with Nikonos III using flash; film subsequently scanned and image saved as digital file.
