Long-horned Beetle

Callimoxys sanguinicollis

Description:

I wasn't quite sure what type of insect this was at first glance. Mainly black in color with a red protonum. Hind pair of legs are yellow and black. All six legs have a bulbous enlargment of the femora. Short, pointed elytra (wing covers).

Habitat:

Campground (temperate forest). Pocahontas State Park, Virginia.
