A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Tadorna variegata
After the Christchurch earthquake a lot of the ducks came into the city. These two settled in a park just around the corner. They soon found these carvings a good predator free spot to sleep. They would still call as I walked past but would not fly away. The carvings are about 4 metres tall.
At the moment the city is empty of people so the birds have free reign. Generally these birds are on pasture in farmland. They like open ground as it means they can see predators coming.
