American Mink

Neovison vison

Description:

Has a long body, a uniformly enlarged, bushy and somewhat tapering tail, and the feet are broad, with webbed digits.

Habitat:

Most territories are located in undisturbed rocky coastal habitats with broad littoral zones and dense cover. They may also occur on estuaries, rivers and canals near urban areas.

Notes:

The one and only time I've ever seen a mink! Was out at Altona Marsh near Charles Town, WV, looking for birds to photograh when this mink just walked out of the cattails - how lucky for me!

Great pic! They can be quite viscous...my brother had one hissing at his 4-wheeler one day while riding on the trails!
