Columbina inca
Small dove. Curved bill, fish scale pattern on back. Social, quiet doves.
Sonoran Desert
Four Inca Doves found in a oleander outside of my dining room window during a rain storm. They were huddling together, climbing on each other's backs for warmth. I've lived here for 10 years near Saguaro National Park, West and these are the first native Inca doves I've seen here. I normally see Mourning Doves. I've seen them at the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum in an aviary before. It was cute to see a dove pyramid.

I have lived here since 1980 and in the same house. There used to be a lot of these Inca Doves around here. I'm just realizing that they rather low in numbers in Tucson and it's very sad. I used to see them every day. Is this the only time you saw them? Have you seen them again?
