Mimetic gumleaf grass hopper

Goniaea sp

Description:

A brown grasshopper about 40 mms long. Wings appeared to have a slightly bluish tinge. Antennae were straw coloured. This specimen blended perfectly with the dry gum leaves and twigs on the ground.

Habitat:

dry sclerophyll forest

Notes:

Cannot specify the gender of this grass hopper. He/she was very difficult to spot let alone photograph. Saw the hopper jump twice but could not locate where he/she landed. The grasshopper is in the centre of pic #1. Pic 2 is an unscaled version of the same photo just to show the location and forest floor.
