Tarantula Hawk

Pepsis grossa

Description:

A large (1.5+ inches) blue/black wasp with orangish wings.

Habitat:

I found this one, or he found me on the back porch of a house we were staying at in Arizona for a couple nights. It was an agricultural setting with pasture all around.

Notes:

Impressive. Not as big as the ones here in Ecuador, but much more docile.
