Band-eyed Drone Fly

Eristalinus taeniops

Description:

Bee mimicking fly with striped eyes. The wings are clear but dark-veined. The second image shows it cleaning its eye while drinking.

Habitat:

African daisy flower on hillside in backyard.

Notes:

This fly is not from the US but is sometimes found in California and Florida. This is my third time seeing this fly on our property this year.
