A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Oxydendrum arboretum
It is native to eastern North America. Sourwood is a small tree or large shrub, growing to 10–20 m tall (30-65 feet) with a trunk up to 50 cm (20 inches) diameter. Its autumnal coloring is particularly beautiful and brilliant. The leaves are heavily charged with acid and are a laxative. The leaves can be chewed (but should not be swallowed) to help alleviate a dry-feeling mouth. They don’t taste bad at all!
