Eastern Hercules Beetle

Dynastes tityus

Description:

The Eastern Hercules beetle is a species of rinoceros beetle native to the United States. They come in several color variations and can be as long as 60 mm (including the horn). Only males possess this distinctive rhinoceros horn, which they use in competition against other males. They pose no danger to humans.

Notes:

The beetle in this picture is deceased. I found him in the grass while walking my dog and posed him in this photograph.
