Buteo lineatus
Red-shouldered Hawks are medium-sized with barred reddish-peachy underparts and a strongly banded tail. Adults are colorful hawks with dark-and-white checkered wings and warm reddish barring on the breast. These hawks build nests in thick wooded areas and are known to inhabit the same nest year after year with a known case of a bird living in the same nest for 16 years!
Red Shouldered Hawks live in forested areas, often near water.
