Nice spot! This is something in the family Melastomataceae (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melastomata...), possibly either an Osbeckia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osbeckia) or Tibouchina species. An Osbeckia could be native to Thailand but if this is in a garden, there's a chance of it being a Tibouchina (which are all New World plants, S.America, Caribbean etc)

This is not in garden. I spoted this on "Doi Inthanon",the highest mountain in Thailand.
