Slash Pine

Pinus elliottii

Description:

The Slash Pine is one of the Southern Yellow Pines (a hardwood). It is one of the 2 long leaf species and may reach 80 to 100 feet. These pines are faster growing than the Longleaf Pine (the other long leaf species of Southern Yellow Pine), but they only live for about 200 years. This makes them the shorter (in height and in life span) of the two species.

Habitat:

Nature area on local college campus.
