Top of head and neck are dark brown/blackish. A yellowish or pale brown stripe extends from the snout through the eye to the temporal region, bordered below by an irregular dark stripe.

I'm pretty sure it's a Monk snake (Suta monachus). Just not t a very brightly colored one. http://www.cagephotos.com/Australia-2008...

Bit hard to tell.. so many types with dark areas near head... from shape of head it could be Unbanded Shovel Nosed Snake (Simoselaps incinctus)
