Eastern Cottontail Rabbit

Silvilagus floridanus

Description:

Red brown or gray brown with large hind feet, long ears, a short white fluffy tail and underside white fur.

Habitat:

Our ten acre partially wooded property in rural northern Michigan.

Notes:

We have quite a few cottontails on our property this spring. Some of them use our barn and the bushes that grow alongside for protection (sharing territory with our woodchucks).
