Malayan Box Turtle

Cuora amboinensis

Description:

Also known as the Amboina box turtle, a species of Asian box turtle. Although this species is commonly called the Malayan Box Turtle, it can also be found in other countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, Singapore..... Under my camera flash, most of their body dark colors appeared black except for their yellow "V" marks on their heads. These turtles are obviously reared by the resort because they are found in an open small area inside the building.

Habitat:

I am not sure about the real wild habitat of Cuora amboinensis. I found these turtles or tortoises in a open (no roof) small ground with grasses and other plants and with watery ditches on the sides inside the main building of Mimpian Jadi Resort, Tuaran, Sabah, Malaysia. See the last picture, the turtles are on the small piece of land below the stairs.

Notes:

After we left Kinabalu Park and the Kundasang higlands, we stayed here in Mimpianjadi Resort at the seaside and found more interesting seaside lowland animals. ID isn't hard because there are only 22 species of Testudines in Malaysia. >>>Map accuracy : 10m diameter.
