Ardea cinerea
quite a large bird, faintly grey/blue, I think its a type of heron but not sure, you can see some snow on its wings in the second photo. I'm having a bit of trouble uploading photos, if you can't see something, please let me know.
shallow lake
I spotted this bird while walking around Caohai lake, near the town of Weining. The lake provides crucial habitat for many bird species, including the rare Black-necked Crane, which I also spotted there. It was a very cold morning when I went to the lake and it actually lightly snowed! The second photo shows the bird walking on some canoes that are used to explore the lake. I thought the bird was injured because it just kept walking from boat to boat, but then it flew away.
Thanks everyone for the ID help.
@Thanks Alice, I was having trouble uploading. Well, I'm only back to Noah, still out traveling for a while longer.
So that is where you have been hiding! China! The middle picture is missing!Welcome back.
Very common bird in The Netherlands and the rest of W-Europe as well I believe. Definitely this is a Reiger (Dutch for Grey Heron) :)
Looks a bit like our Grey Herons, but not sure what these are called in China.
Great find!
