Eastern Box Turtle

Terrapene carolina carolina

Description:

Brown/black shell with pattern of yellow splotches all over.

Habitat:

Forest/Field

Notes:

These turtles have a nasty habit of being inconspicuous in places where I walk, so I end up almost stepping on them quite often. At least it's a box turtle, rather than a copperhead though! Found at Barbara A. Beiser Field Station.
